Pre-Planning:
Rollout Considerations
Staff/Resources
The implementation phase would be carried out over approximately 12 weeks, which experts say is about average for a course of this scale (Vats, 2024). At first, only the most essential features of the LMS would be rolled out for a limited number of users. Based on demand, we could consider scaling up down the road.
During this phase, there would be a team of five: four full-time employees and a part-time course facilitator.
- Project manager: This person would oversee the day-to-day progress of the rollout project plan and ensure that budgets, timelines, and deliverables are on track.
- Instructional designer/content creator: Besides designing and developing the full multimedia eLearning package, this person would help to support the curation of additional learning content for the module toolkits.
- Community manager and moderator: Though these are often separate roles, only one person would initially carry out the functions of both, due to the relatively small scope of this project. During the implementation phase, this person would serve as the learners’ initial point of contact, as well as manage communication, answer learner queries, and moderate forum discussions (DLI, 2023). This person should ideally have experience working with an older population of customers or learners, preferably as a teacher.
- Platform administrator: This person would play a key role in supporting learners and staff before, during, and after the rollout. Their responsibilities would include overseeing both admin and user testing of the platform, addressing technical issues during the course rollout, and reviewing learner and staff feedback to determine if corrective measures would need to be taken.
- Trainer/subject matter expert: This person would lead the live virtual classroom sessions and could be brought on part-time or as a freelance consultant.
